“VIEIRAGRINO” SHORT STORY AWARDS, FIFTEENTH EDITION

The “Friends of the Camino de Santiago” Association of the Valencian Community announces the FIFTEENTH EDITION OF THE “VIEIRAGRINO” SHORT STORY AWARDS, in accordance with the following rules:

  1. The award is intended to encourage the writing of short stories about the traditions of the Camino de Santiago. Stories may be works of literary fiction inspired by the customs, history, and traditions of the Camino de Santiago, as well as the experiences and stories of pilgrims. Stories that resemble short essays, more appropriate for a historical research award, will not be accepted.
  2. A prize of €600 will be awarded to the winner and another of €300 to the runner-up. The jury may declare the prizes void if it deems it appropriate.
  3. The work (one per participant) must be original (without the use of artificial intelligence), unpublished, not awarded a prize in any other competition, and written in any language, provided it is accompanied by a translation into one of the two official languages ​​of the Valencian Community.
  4. Anyone who wishes to participate and meets the requirements of this call for entries may do so, except for winners of a first prize in the “Vieiragrino” competition in the last five editions.
  5. The story must be a maximum of 7 pages, on DIN A4 paper, in Arial 12-point font, and printed on one side only. Entries, sealed in a sealed envelope, must be sent by registered mail to: Asociación “Amigos Camino de Santiago” de la Comunidad Valenciana, C/ Jerónimo Muñoz, 32-Bajo, 46007-VALENCIA, Spain. Along with the four copies, a sealed envelope must be included containing proof of the author’s identity, address, and nationality. Each entry will be assigned a number upon arrival at the Association. The submission period will close on October 15, 2026.
  6. A jury, composed of individuals with recognized expertise in the literary and cultural fields, will issue its final and unappealable decision during the month of November, which will be made public in December.
  7. The winning entries will become the property of the Association, which may publish them to disseminate their content. Winning authors must acknowledge that their story was awarded a prize in this competition if they publish it independently. Furthermore, original submissions will not be returned and will be destroyed 30 calendar days after the date of the decision.
  8. Submitting to this competition implies acceptance of all the rules set forth herein. Any story that does not comply with these rules will be disqualified.
  9. The awards ceremony will be held at a public event; the date and location will be announced in due course.
