Arévalo is located in the plain that dominates the north of the province of Ávila. Its strategic location, between the rivers Adaja and Arevalillo, gives us an idea of its remote origin.
Its period of greatest splendour was the Middle Ages, when most of its most emblematic buildings date from, such as the castle, bridges and its magnificent Plaza de la Villa. Mudejar, with the predominant use of brick, is the style evident in the local construction, standing out for its number of six churches, originating in the twelfth / thirteenth centuries. Isabel La Católica and S. Ignacio de Loyola were some of the characters who were intimately linked to the city, where they spent decisive years of formation and life. Declared a city in 1894, it also stands out today for its industrial activity, the antique trade and its gastronomy, known for its famous suckling pig roast (Tostón de Arévalo).
