DECISION OF THE THIRTEENTH EDITION OF THE SHORT STORY PRIZE “VIEIRAGRINO”.

Meeting at the headquarters of the Asociación Amigos del Camino de Santiago de la Comunidad Valenciana, calle Jerónimo Muñoz 32, bajo on 28 December 2022, the jury composed of María Ángeles Fernández1, Gloria de Frutos2, Ana Noguera3 and Elena Torres4, acting as secretary and without vote, Amparo Sánchez, member of the AACSCV Association, in accordance with the specific rules of the competition, and after individually assessing the narratives submitted and pooling their scores, eliminating those narratives that did not comply with the established rules, agree to award the prizes in this competition to:

*First prize: LAS ESTELAS. Author: Mónica de Castro Pardo, from Madrid.

The jury’s assessment was for its literary quality, using very careful and poetic language.
Descriptions of nature in a simple but meticulous way. The use of the senses in the narrative, with touches of magical realism. The story of the journey as a search for and reconciliation of family and, above all, personal life.

*Finalist: LA ENCRUCIJADA. Author: Lourdes Aso Torralba, from Jaca (Huesca).

The jury valued the originality of the return journey. With a description of both the journey and the pilgrim’s encounter with himself. A story of loss in order to find oneself again. It is a very moving and well described story.

The decision was made after deliberation and argumentation of styles and wit, accompanied by the careful writing and the values provided by the Camino de Santiago.

The stories submitted were of a high standard to be winners, but the reality is that only two could be chosen. We would like to thank all the participants.

The stories that participated in this edition were sent from Valencia and province, Madrid, Albacete, Benalmádena, Sevilla, Burgos, Zamora, Dolores (Alicante), Totana (Murcia), Bilbao, Irún, Vitoria, Jaca, Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz), Higuera la Real (Badajoz), León and Poland.
